Maintaining the health and wellness of our school community allows us to focus on high-quality learning and instruction. To help keep our students, educators, and staff healthy and well, E.L. Haynes follows the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)’s COVID-19 Guidelines.
What are the symptoms?
People with COVID-19 have a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms may start as mild, and some people will progress to more severe symptoms.
What if I feel ill?
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, it’s best to take a COVID-19 test. Learn more about finding a no-cost testing center at https://testinglocator.cdc.gov/.
What if I test positive for COVID-19?
Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have respiratory virus symptoms that aren’t better explained by another cause.
As of July 12, 2024, the CDC recommends going back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
When you do go back to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors. This is especially important to protect people with factors that increase their risk of severe illness from respiratory viruses.

Are masks required?
While masks are not required, community members are welcome to wear them, especially if they are experiencing any sort of symptoms or are recovering from an illness. Masks are available in each school’s front lobby.
Are COVID-19 vaccinations required?
While not required, we strongly encourage all staff and students to stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters, especially if you are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
